we made it

We finally made it to Tahoe on Saturday and the weather and skiing was amazing. Fresh powder, sunny weather--you couldn't ask for much more!

new years blizzard

Here's what the road conditions looked like on Highway 88 to Kirkwood near Lake Tahoe right before we decided to return to the Bay Area. There was so much snow on the road (and so little visibility) that we had to follow a plow to get down the mountain.

Every single road was closed to Lake Tahoe from the Bay Area due to the New Years blizzard that dumped 15 inches of snow on the ground. Our ill-fated adventure to reach the slopes ended in an 8 hour round trip drive through 6 or more inches of snow cover at certain times. (Thank God for all-wheel drive!)

No matter; this just means wonderful fresh powder for the weekend when we make another attempt to reach the slopes this weekend when the blizzard subsides.
